Should we try to know God through reason? Absolutely!! Jesus said we should love God with all our minds. And yet, reason alone is not enough. You are more than a mind; you are a spiritual being and your spirit needs to experience God too.
I am so grateful for all the freedoms we have in Christ! And yet, how willing are we to suspend taking advantage of those freedoms in order to make sure our fellow believers are not tripped up by our freedoms? We are within our rights to worship, eat, dress, speak and do many other things as we wish that don’t transgress any law. But when we exercise those freedoms at the expense of another’s conscience, we break the Law of Love, the Law of loving our neighbor as ourselves. How might we show the love of Christ by temporarily suspending our rights?
Do you sometimes feel that your purpose is elusive? Can’t quite figure out why you’re here? God creates. And when He does, He gives purpose and meaning to what He creates. He hasn’t forgotten about you! He will fill your life if you give it to Him.
It can be tempting to only seek the Lord in the hard times, when we really need wisdom. But why would we neglect the wisdom available to us at any time?
Do you ever get tempted like I do to sit on the sidelines because it feels like everyone else can run circles around you? But what if we choose to not let the accomplishments of others intimidate us out of the game? We should give our all no matter how small it seems to us. We just might be surprised with what the Lord can do with it!
It’s Holy Thursday! Time to reflect on the Last Supper. Is Jesus our Lord and Rabbi? Do we allow Him to teach our intellect, but not allow Him to have a say over how we live our lives? Both are essential, but which disciple never understood this concept?
Happy International Women’s Day! What flaw is it in the foundation of our thinking that causes us to be adversarial toward women? Where did we get the idea that women are a problem to be solved?
Everyday on Social Media I see women portrayed as “too much” or “not enough” and often blamed for the problems of others. But what does God have to say about women?
Are you imperfect? Join the club that includes all of humanity! But don’t allow your imperfections to accuse you and keep you from doing all God is calling you to do. Place yourself in His hands to purify AND to use.
When someone sins against you, it feels so stingingly personal. And yet, there is a way to take yourself out of the equation and release them from the debt they “owe” you. Because you belong to God, He takes sins against you personally and the debt others owe is truly a debt to Him.
“Peace on Earth”? Are you kidding? Has there ever been even a moment when this Earth was at peace? And yet, this is the declaration of the angels to the shepherds. What can they be talking about?
Oftentimes we are so used to hearing the prophecies about Jesus’ birth that we lose touch with just how crazy they must’ve sounded when they were first spoken! But there’s beauty and awe in that craziness!
Are we trying to bear fruit on our own? Perhaps we have all the appearance of fruitfulness, but unless all the good things we are doing are birthed out of a place of true righteousness (righteousness received as a gift from God), all our effort is the fruitless action of self-righteousness.
Some say that the Israelites could have journeyed to the Promised Land in eleven days. But how is that thinking setting our own faith journey up for failure?
I routinely come across people who are confident that they are "good enough" to get into heaven and others who are confident that goodness doesn't matter. So how good is good enough?
